The high-definition video built into the Xbox 360 design would be a waste if it was used just for playing games. Especially with the console's online capability, video streaming via Xbox LIVE has become one of its standout allures.
High-definition movies look extremely good when you have the right TV monitor and the proper connection from your Xbox 360 console. But if your entertainment room doesn't include a high def TV, the standard television will do just as well, besides costing less in terms of rentals and purchases.
When you log in to your My Xbox account at Xbox.com Australia, you enter not just a richly interactive video playground. You also have at your fingertips the ability to launch a wide array of video streaming and viewing possibilities through Xbox LIVE.
Access to video on the Xbox 360 console is provided by Zune on Xbox LIVE. There you'll find a vast library of titles, all with stunning clarity. High-capacity broadband connections in homes these days mean that you can view what you want when you want it - all in up to 1080p and 5.1 surround sound.
Rent movies from Zune. Some rental movies are available for streaming and/or downloading, and many offer a choice of resolutions (high definition and/or standard definition). Each listed movie will display the options associated with it.
When you rent a video from Zune on your Xbox 360 console, the show remains available for up to 14 days. Watch your rental anytime you like and as many times as you like.
Here's how to rent a movie on Xbox LIVE:
1. Sign in to Xbox LIVE.
2. Go to your Xbox dashboard and then choose Video Marketplace. You may be asked to accept a Zune installation if this is a first visit.
3. Then, you may go ahead and choose a movie. Browse by what's currently featured, or by genre, as you wish. You can also perform an online search for a specific title.
Streaming is great if you have a fast, solid Internet connection; you can watch a movie right away.
Downloading, on the other hand, is recommended with slower Internet speeds or if you want to make sure about getting the best possible video quality from beginning to end.
What's the use of something that's a lot of fun if you can't share it? Even when all of you can't be gathered at one place, the system enables you to have a video party with up to seven online friends on a virtual basis by using the Xbox LIVE party feature.
With Zune on Xbox LIVE, you control the premium digital entertainment for more fun. Invite friends to your party and then choose from the catalog that lists thousands of videos from Zune. Each person must individually rent the video that the group will watch.
Whilst watching, the partiers can even use the Xbox Party Chat feature to talk to each other. Of course, everyone who wants to chat will have to put on a headset. If they wish to just listen passively, they can course the audio through their speakers.
In case someone gets overboard with his reactions or comments, you (the organiser or leader) can click on his gamertag and opt to bounce him out of the party. Hahah!
Whether your friends are in the neighbourhood or across the continent, an Xbox video party is the great new way to have fun. Now, if only there was virtual popcorn.
